Evaluating Office 2010
Microsoft Office 2010, code-named Office 14, is the latest productivity suite from Microsoft, the successor to Office 2007 for Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft’s Office suites continue to evolve with every new edition. Whilst they may not be revolutionary in themselves, each new edition brings a host of great improvements. Office 2010 comes with a new 64-bit version of the package, meaning Excel users in particular will be able to enjoy an increase in performance. Other new additions: the ribbon will be present in all Office applications, XML file formats are identical to those in Office 2007, the "File" menu returns under the new name of "Backstage", and the "Copy/Paste" function has been simplified. With proper training, users will be able to realize and enjoy the new features of Office 2010.

Evaluating Microsoft Office 2010 is not an easy task due to its many standalone applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.). All of these are more or less dependent on each other and the functionality of these applications will also depend on the underlying servers such as SharePoint or Exchange.

One possibility would be to evaluate Office as an standalone product, review the capabilities that increase your productivity and then, depending on your infrastructure, assess the functionality of the underlying servers.

For more information, visit the official blog of the Office Product Development Group or the website of Microsoft Office.

Content Aware Scale in Photoshop
Amongst the many new and exciting features in Photoshop CS5 is the Content Aware Scale, which allows you to expand the width of an image without deforming the foreground elements. Let’s try it with this image. I want to double the width without distorting these two trees. Normally, this would prove to be quite a long process, as I would have cut the trees, applied a stamp, etc.

With CS5, just select the Content Aware Scale in the Edit menu. Of course, you’ve got to first change the canvas size to fit the new width.

Use the grips to expand your image and then apply the change. As you can see, the background has been altered in terms of width without changing the appearance of the trees.
